MAID IN OLX; MADE IN NIGERIA
Maid in OLX, Funmilayo Adeyemi a.k.a. Mary Akinloye, the nanny who kidnapped the 3 Orekoya kids, has pleaded with the Orekoyas, saying they should forgive her "for causing them so much pain".
She was picked up some days back by operatives of SARS, led by Abba Kyarat at Coker Estate, Shasha , Akowonjo, Lagos. She is said to be the same Nanny who kidnapped the Magodo kids (Raphael and Michael Esharegaran).
She was arrested with her maid after she fled her home when she realised police operatives have closed in on her. The police say contrary to what she told her employer and the OLX portal, her real name is Funmilayo Adeyemi and she hails from Osun State. She had earlier claimed Oyo State to her cover tracts.
The nanny, who abducted three children in the Surulere area of Lagos State on April 7 was allegdly pushed into the act by her husband, Waheed Kareem. She disclosed this in her confessional statement. According to the nanny, the family runs a kidnapping business, adding that her husband is the head of the gang. The 35-year-old Funmilayo Adeyemi who hails from Osun State confessed to the crime, saying her entire family members were involved in the act.
Immediately the kidnapped case was reported, the SARS team swung into action, asking the Orekoyas to pay a fraction of the ransom into the account of an unnamed bank, said to have been opened in Oyo State. SARS investigation revealed a link between the contact number on the account and that of the nanny. The kidnappers and her gang withdrew N400,000 from the account using the ATM as the Police set up surveillance on the account and calls on the mobile phones of members of the syndicate.
OLX RESPONSE
After days of silence from OLX, the online sales portal, where Mrs Adebisi Orekoya, applied for a nanny through an advert, finally responded by describing the situation as unfortunate. OLX Country Manager, Lola Masha, in an online statement, yesterday, said: “OLX is an online classified site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade.
“We take steps to moderate and review all adverts, but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers.
“Transactions are performed directly between both parties. In all our marketing campaign, we continuously urge our users to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX.
“We sincerely hope that the three kids are returned safely to their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we will provide all help within our capacity to facilitate the quick reunion of the children with their family.
“We continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents.
“We also need our users to help us kick out bad players and ask them to report any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action.”
